Alexander dem Grossen durchtrennte den Gordische Knoten mit dem Schwert, also mit Gewalt. Dies passt in unsere Zeit, in der aktuell das Recht des Stärkeren zählt und zur Konfliktlösung die Gewalt vor dem Gespräch kommt. 

Alexander the Great cut the knot with the sword, that means with violence. This fits in with our times, in which the right of the strongest currently counts and violence comes before dialogue.
